dc.description	Van Gogh saw the Potato Eaters as a showpiece, for which he deliberately chose a difficult composition to prove he was on his way to becoming a good figure painter. The painting had to depict the harsh reality of country life, so he gave the peasants coarse faces and bony, working hands. He wanted to show in this way that they ‘have tilled the earth themselves with these hands they are putting in the dish ... that they have thus honestly earned their food’. 반 고흐는 감자 먹는 사람들을 하나의 전시품으로 보았고, 그 작품에서 그는 자신이 훌륭한 화가가 되는 길을 가고 있다는 것을 증명하기 위해 의도적으로 어려운 구성을 선택했다. 그 그림은 시골 생활의 가혹한 현실을 묘사해야 했기 때문에, 그는 농부들에게 거친 얼굴과 뼈가 있는 일손을 주었다. 그는 이런 방식으로 그들이 '그들이 요리에 넣고 있는 이 손으로 스스로 땅을 기울였다… 그렇게 그들이 정직하게 그들의 음식을 얻었다'는 것을 보여주고 싶었다.	en_US
